Reimagined Crusts

One of the most common questions we get asked is: what do you do with all of the crusts after you produce your sandwiches?

Initially, we didn’t really have an answer to this question because we actually weren’t planning on doing anything with our crusts. We unfortunately viewed them as scraps. But after receiving that question numerous times before we even launched, we knew we had to come up with a solution for a potentially large problem. 

According to ReFED, every year, American consumers, businesses, and farms spend $218 billion a year, or 1.3% GDP, growing, processing, transporting, and disposing food that is never eaten. That’s 52 million tons of food sent to landfills annually. Simply a statistic we knew we didn’t want to be a part of. Especially after we calculated that for every 3 sandwiches we make, we could be wasting enough materials to make 1 additional sandwich.

To combat this, we came up with a way to upcycle our bread crusts and butts into what we call, Reimagined Crusts

FYI: Upcycling is the process of reusing potential waste materials or by-products and transforming them into new products.

So instead of disposing potentially tens of thousands of pounds of bread crusts each year, we decided to use these delicious little crusts (and bread loaf butts) as the foundation of something that we are incredibly proud of.

Noteworthy side note: Creating Reimagined Crusts completely changes the way we plan to grow Chubby Organics. In most cases, it’s enough for a food business to provide healthy and transparent products, but we knew we wanted to take that a step further, which is why we are challenging ourselves to become a ZERO Food Waste Company. We don’t quite know what that means just YET (which is why we aren’t setting a date), but we are starting with our own food waste. Our promise to YOU is to eliminate the disposition of our food waste into landfills and vow to look for every opportunity to become fully 100% ZERO Food Waste

Reimagined Crusts are simply our already reimagined superfood sandwiches transformed into protein bites that are filled with nutritious tasty goodness!

Keeping it consistent, Reimagined Crusts are vegan, organic, nutritious, and of course jam packed with delicious ingredients such as: oat milk, dates, chia seeds, cacao, almond butter, blueberry jam, and of course bread crusts (and their butts).

To ensure peak freshness, we are currently only selling our Reimagined Crusts at local Los Angeles Farmers Markets and with select partners until we can create the demand for e-commerce.
